2027 Democratic Leadership Alliance, DLA, presidential aspirant Mrs Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju has resigned from the party over alleged failure to conduct a free and fair primary. She is also demanding a refund of her presidential nomination fee.

In a resignation letter addressed to the DLA National Chairman and obtained in Akure on Friday, May 29, 2026, Busari-Akinnadeju said her decision followed the party’s adoption of a consensus candidate.

“I do not resign in defeat. I resigned because I am not permitted a fair contest, and I will not lend my name to a process that has abandoned its own rules,” she wrote.

The DLA chieftain from Akungba Akoko, Akoko South-West LGA, Ondo State, said the party’s action was “opposing and inimical to the growth of the party.”

She requested three things from the party leadership: written confirmation of her resignation, refund of the presidential nomination fee she paid, and return of any personal documents in the party’s possession.

Busari-Akinnadeju noted that her commitment to the 2027 presidential race remains unchanged. She pledged to continue her “Dare Nigeria” campaign on another platform.

“My commitment to the 2027 presidential race and the Dare Agenda, and to the millions of Nigerians who have answered the call of #DareNigeria, is undimmed,” she said. “I will continue that work on a platform worthy of it.”

She added that a party unable to conduct a fair primary among its aspirants cannot credibly promise Nigerians a fair country.

The DLA is yet to officially respond to her resignation and refund request as of press time.
