The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution has urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, peaceful coexistence, and national unity as Muslims mark Eid-el-Kabir.

In a statement on Wednesday, the institute said the festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice in obedience to God. It said the occasion offers lessons in devotion, compassion, discipline, and submission to divine will.

IPCR noted that Eid-el-Kabir, which coincides with the Hajj rites in Mecca, including the standing at Arafat, goes beyond religious observance. It serves as a reminder of shared humanity and empathy.

The institute said the symbolic act of sacrifice highlights the need for generosity, care for the less privileged, and stronger community bonds. It stressed that these values are essential for social cohesion, mutual respect, and national harmony for all Nigerians, not just Muslims.

IPCR urged citizens to use the occasion to strengthen friendship across religious and ethnic lines and to reject hatred, extremism, discrimination, and anything that threatens peaceful coexistence. It said peace remains the foundation for sustainable development and progress in a diverse society like Nigeria.

The institute reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful living, conflict prevention, mediation, and dialogue across communities and institutions. It also called on government and stakeholders to sustain policies that support peacebuilding, justice, and inclusive governance.

Citizens were advised to remain law-abiding, celebrate peacefully, and extend kindness to vulnerable people, including the needy and displaced.

IPCR Director-General Dr. Joseph Ochogwu congratulated Muslim faithful and said lasting peace can only come through collective responsibility, mutual understanding, and a sustained commitment to coexistence.
