● NDC VP candidate to Nigerians: “Disregard false reports. We’ll defeat insecurity and APC at the polls, not on the streets”

Rabiu Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Coalition, NDC, has dismissed reports that party leaders are planning a protest over rising insecurity.

In a statement Monday June 1, 2026, the former Minister of Defence and 2-term Kano governor called the claims “false and misleading,” urging Nigerians to ignore what he termed “deliberate misinformation.”

“We do not support any action that could lead to breakdown of public order or destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” Kwankwaso said.

The NDC VP candidate stressed that the party believes the ballot box remains “the most legitimate and effective way” for citizens to express grievances and drive change.

—2027 confidence: “Resounding victory through peace”—

Kwankwaso reaffirmed NDC’s democratic stance ahead of 2027: “As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means.”

He advised the public to disregard those “peddling such disinformation.”

The clarification comes as insecurity dominates national discourse, with recent abductions reported in Oyo, Ekiti and Kwara states, and Babachir Lawal quitting ADC over alleged rigged primaries.
